The LaLaLa Syndrome

A sad story or two - not only has life been lost but a business may go under when simple remedies were available.
I was talking to a dear friend of mine yesterday and we were lamenting the fact that both of us work in areas designed to assist companies meet their training and compliance requirements.
My company has a great system that interactively collects information for staff to meet their basic Job Role pre-requisites in the work place. It progressively works through all staff and administrators to provide a solid audit trail in the event that something does go wrong.
The two articles listed are situations that with very little effort on behalf of owners staff would have been trained and a) may have avoided the accident or at worst b) demonstrated that the employer had made every endeavour to euip personnel with the appropriate skills to do the job safely.
Do you think business want to listen. It seems they simply put their fingers in their ears and in a loud voice sing "lalala" won't happen to me - or will it.

Thge LaLaLa Syndrome is not confined to employers and managers. Often those most directly impacted adverserly by failure to comply, train and act safely are the people on the job. They injure themselves, and sometimes tragically die, because of LaLaLa. We need to get everyone's fingers out of their ears - keep after them Jim.
